SANTA ANA, Calif., Oct. 13, 2025 — For over 1,600 years, Christians around the world have set aside the first Sunday in November to remember and pray for believers who suffer for their faith. This year, Open Doors US is calling Christians around the world to turn their eyes and prayers towards the believers of Myanmar as a focus for 2025’s International Day of Prayer. To encourage and aid Christians for this day, whether praying individually, as part of a church or as part of ministry, Open Doors has released numerous resources to guide and educate believers in the needs of the Myanmar church.
In Myanmar, the Church has been endangered through enduring an ongoing civil war, earthquakes and targeted persecution, scattering the Church and leaving it weakened in a predominantly Buddhist culture. This year, Open Doors seeks to raise spiritual awareness for the suffering and needs of the Myanmar Church and rally Christians from all over the world in supporting them through prayer, advocacy and perhaps even financial contributions.
The available resources launched for this year’s International Day of Prayer include:
- Sermon Presentation: A visual aid to help pastors and group leaders convey the realities of Myanmar’s persecution crisis as well as the power of prayer and Scriptures that encourage the persecuted Church.
- Sermon Notes: Detailed guidance to structure a message focused on standing in solidarity with persecuted Christians, featuring the story and testimony Pastor Yang of Myanmar and his specific requests to pray for Myanmar’s scattered Church.
- Informative Video: A five-minute video detailing the persecution Myanmar faces, narrated by Pastor Yang, is available for viewing. The video contains language and descriptions of violence that may be difficult or offensive for some viewers. Open Doors advises individuals and churches to use discretion when showing this in a church or large group setting.
- Digital Flyer: A shareable flyer to promote participation in the International Day of Prayer and the focus on Myanmar among churches and other groups.
- Social Media Posts: Ready-to-use posts to spread awareness and encourage others to pray for the needs of Christians in Myanmar and all around the world.
This International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church, Open Doors hopes to direct the attention of churches and Christians all around the world to the suffering of our persecuted family members that will inspire prayer and support long after the day’s calendar page has turned.
“On November 2, we invite Christians worldwide to join together in lifting up the persecuted Church,” said Ryan Brown, President and CEO of Open Doors US. “This day reminds us that we are all one in Christ, and we are to share in bearing each other’s burdens. Our hope is that on this day, and every day after it, the Church in Myanmar and around the world would know that they have not been forgotten.”
Churches and individuals alike are encouraged to utilize the resources from the Open Doors US website for their individual prayer life, church service prayers or even to organize specific prayer events dedicated to lifting up persecuted believers. The religious liberty enjoyed by Christians in America can be wielded to spiritually fight for Christians who are denied those same liberties, instead suffering for the faith we share.
Whether in Myanmar, the increasingly-dangerous African region or elsewhere around the world, Open Doors invites believers everywhere to join in prayer for the persecuted Church.
