The main inspiration for the song “Direction” comes from the conversion story of Paul in Acts 9. The sudden and dramatic nature of Paul’s change has always resonated with me. It is so encouraging to know we serve a God who can transform anyone’s life in a moment. Paul was so passionately against the community of Christian believers, yet he ended up becoming one of them. It shows that no one is beyond God’s reach. Even the person who seems the farthest away from God is potentially just a moment away from meeting Him. This challenges me to look at people through the eyes of faith rather than making conclusions based on their current state.
Our own story of meeting Jesus may not be as extreme as Paul’s, but the common thread is that once we truly encounter Him, what we value and pursue in life changes completely. May God’s love impact us each day so that we willingly lay down our own agendas and focus our energies on doing the things that are most important, just like Paul did. And as God re-directs our lives, my prayer is that He completes His work in us, hence the central lyric of the song “make me all that You want me to be.”
