CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — The Tide® (www.thetide.org) ministry’s Arabic language video content is helping viewers throughout the Middle East come to Christ and want to know more about the Gospel.
“Programming like our Middle East Children’s Program brings hope amidst the ongoing tensions faced by Christians in the Middle East, including Egypt,” says Don Shenk, executive director of The Tide ministry. “This is especially important now more than ever for Christian children in Egypt, where the Tide’s Middle East Children’s Program brings the hope of the Gospel to them as they face a variety of negative repercussions as a result of living in a tumultuous environment.”
Around the world, one in seven Christians face harassment, violence or worse simply for their faith. Among the persecuted are Egypt’s Christians, who, although they live in a land of ancient wonders and rich history, face daily discrimination, harsh restrictions and constant pressure to hide their faith.
Persecution faced by Christians in Egypt includes violence and the threat of violence. In 2021, authorities escalated the use of the abusive Emergency State Security Courts to prosecute peaceful activists and critics who joined thousands of dissidents already in Egypt’s congested prisons. Courts issued death sentences in mass trials, adding to the sharply escalating numbers of executions. In Egypt, only 10% of the population is Christian.
“We are excited about the latest update from The Tide ministry’s boots on the ground in Egypt,” says Shenk. “By the grace of the Lord, they successfully completed notable recording and production milestones. As a result, we have the potential to reach millions of children with the Good News.”
The Tide’s Middle East children’s programming is broadcast over satellite TV across the Middle East in local languages and each new episode is also posted online via social media. In addition, The Tide reports:
-
In Cairo, Egypt, The Tide production team completed the filming of 10 new episodes in the Egyptian dialect. The Tide is grateful for the grace bestowed upon its entire team, which allowed the shooting to proceed smoothly.
-
A Facebook page created specifically for this content has received hundreds of direct messages from people asking questions and commenting on the videos. The Tide partners chat with them privately about Jesus.
“The Tide boots on the ground share the message of salvation with everyone who interacts and encourages them to know more about Jesus and His love,” says Shenk. “The Tide gives thanks for the successful completion of the fresh programming in Cairo and prays that these productions will reach and inspire many boys and girls and lead them to know Jesus as their personal savior.
“The Tide ministry has partnered in this project to provide a creative and attention-catching forum to answer questions and to break down barriers for all children — in Egypt and throughout the Arab and Muslim societies of the Middle East to come to Jesus as Savior.
“We pray for more engagement with children who tune in to the Middle East Children’s Program and that more hearts will be turned towards the Lord.”
