“The One (I’m Fighting For)” is a song I wrote after hearing story after story from friends and fans who are going through really difficult times in their lives. I had this sense that so many of us as a society and as a culture were caught in this overwhelming heartache, the sense of loneliness, and the sense of despair. I wanted to write a song that spoke to all these people. A song that reminded them that they were not alone in whatever they were going through. Life can feel like a fight. Sometimes it can even seem like a battle. I wanted to paint this picture of God stepping into the ring with us to help us take on whatever we were going through. Hebrews 13: 5-6 says, “God has said, never will I leave you. Never will I forsake you. So we say with confidence the Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid.”
You and I know that we are not alone, and we have the opportunity to go out into the world and share God’s love with everyone else. You know was well as I do that this world is hurting and looking for hope. Let’s tell them that they don’t need to go it alone. That God is there wanting to walk each step with us and willing to help us with each and every fight. As your driving in your car, or listening at home, I hope this song can be an encouragement to you if you are going through a rough time. I hope you can remember that you are not alone in your troubles. And for some of you, I hope that this song can be a reminder to show God’s love to the world around you.
